What is a touque you ask me, well I'll tell you what a touque is I will. A touque is the epidome of canadianism, the fashion statement that defines us as a nation. It has become so ingrained in our culture and lifestyle that it ranks right up there with Tim Hortons, Zambonis and Roots Backpacks in the minds of Canadians coast to coast. An absolute essential for life in Canada.
I tried my hand at making BBQ tofu today despite my roomates obvious prejudice agianst soy product. Unfortunely I could not find my prefered recipe on saint aidan's cookbook (google it) so I kinda had to improvise. I never really paid attention when my mom made it , so I only had vague memories to work of off.
First I cut the tofu into slices, placed them between thick wads of paper towel, and squished the heck out of them for about 30 min.
Then I stuffed them in the freezer for 45 min (I read somewhere that frozen tofu has a better texture than the unfrozen stuff which has a tendency to go all mushy).
After dipping the tofu slices in soy sauce I fried them to infinity in canola oil. The first batch was a little weird, the oil kinda flew every which where and the tofu fused to the bottom of pan . The second time round worked much better but the mess had already started.
When my frying adventure was over I covered them in BQQ sauce and set them to bake for about 10 minutes (yet another dish soiled beyond recognition).
The end result, tofu + sliced tomatoes + ketchup + mustard on a bun, was delicious !!!
But of course nobody believed me, and the room mates and friend declined to try it.
*sigh*
Oh well, I get to eat BBQ tofu for lunch next week, I'm happy.
I go to an international school, I belive this fact has already been mentioned at least once on my blog. In my class there are people from all over the world; Algeria, Morocco, Congo, Soudan, Rwanda, Switzerland, Mexico, USA, the Philipenes, and even Pakistan and Afganistan.
Our Social Studies classes get pretty loud on touchy subjects ( like should women be forced to wear/not wear burkas or other religious headgear?).
I'm actually quite looking forward to the disection of something I originally classed as 'a very unfortunate disaster but not relevant to my life' (I was shown the error of my ways some time ago).
Yo, I went to the world Skills competition at stampede park today with my school. For those of you who don't know what it is badicly it's a giant simtatious competition between the best of the best in any trade imaginable. I saw everything from auto mechanics to hairdressing to pastry chefs to oil workers heck I even got offered a job in the beauty department but alas my legs weren't hairry enough to need waxing.
My friends and I also rocked the freebee scene, I scored an awesome hand thrown pot from the South Koreens and tonnes random wierd stuff like a radio pen, lots of pencils, pens, pins and assorted travel guides from around the world. There is probably more stuff in my extraodinarly heavy purse but I'm too sore/stiff to get up and check.
Was not very educational, unless you count knowing how to ductape somebody to a wall a vital life skill.
For the morning we just sat there and listened as assorted people blathered on and on. Then we separated into our grades to listen to yet more blathering, we were also given thing like permission forms to leave the school during lunch hour, and forms to go to the world skills competion as spectators, and cafateria menus (I promply decided I am going to pack a lunch everyday).
After an hour and a half long lunch break we went and did lame activities like three legged races and not so lame activities like dunktanks with teachers in them, and the highlight of my day ductaping the lightest girl in our group to the wall and seeing how long she stayed there. (we came in third.... Out of four teams)
My probable timetable is: French 20, French 30, Social Studies 30, Chemistry 30, Physics 30 (don't ask), Math 30, and woodworking (I'll take anything but Esl, anything). I think there was something else but I forgot, I get my for certian timetable tomorrow morning.
Stressed to the max already, so far I make a pretty sucky citydweller.
Though I had my first encounter with the thing known as Calgary transit and I didn't get horribly lost so there might be hope for me yet.
But on the school front all is not so well, I have permission to go to the orientation day Monday, but they still don't have my transcripts so I cant be enrolled in any classes. Which really sucks, I panicked ally, but I live in the amazing house of chillax so we sat down and watched one of the strangest movies I've ever seen. Something about the army of darkness, whatever it was it was definitely "Interesting". I'll watch it agian in a heartbeat.
Packing up my entire life and moving 3 times in less than a year, I'm going for a new record.
J'ai recontré un mec français aujourd'hui et il m'a dit que j'ai un accent allemand quand je parle français.
C'est un peu bizzare, non?
