yar I'm Bored

Subjet line say it all, french class is so boring when your already finished the homework assignement that's due at the end of the week... What? I had a lot of time on my hand this weekend, I got bored... which seems to be a reoccuring theme in my life.

I need to plan something fun and exciting that can be done on a buget, any ideas?

school

Someone shoot me now.

well actually that won't do anything the ball has already started rolling, I just hope it won't snowball out of control.
Just for the record this was not my idea, but as the class representant it falls to me to take responsibility.

There are problems here at school, lots of them.

So during our morning classes we designed a petition, and started passing around a paper for suggestions of things to change to imrove. The first class was fine, but the second class the teacher caught the paper and confiscated it... then read it...

My original plan was to gather suggestions then make a presentation at the next school council meeting (some time next month) with like just the basic vague general suggestions, no names or anti (a certian) teacher sediments. But as nothing ever goes according to plan, I was told not to wait till next month as the things written down were serious enough to demande immediate attention.

the list has been transfered to a computer document and de-personnalized (getting rid of those things that can trace certians sediments that could easily be traced or could result in a teacher being fired), and handed to the socials studies teacher, teacher best equipted to give a non judgemental presentation, to show to the vice principle.

I know this will be traced to me (as the titled of the text is roughly translated as From the class of Grade 12; plans to improve the quality of the school), but its not just me who has a problem... heck I don't really have any, it's just as representant I have to listen to the numerous complaint of others.

Oh well, we'll just call it practice for university.

Quartier des écrivains : Super-human

If you could choose one super-power, what would it be and why?

Personally if I had a choice I wouldn't choose a cliché superpower like say flying, superstrength or some combination of the two and end up just another superhero (or wanna be superhero as would probably be my case). I see myself more as someone who works in the background than as a frontline fighter, so naturally I'd choose something that would compliment this. I think I would prefer to have something a little more discrete (and humanely possible) like phtotgraphic and/or muscle memory or an extremely powerful strategic brain.

That being said, if people did randomly start developing strange and amazing powers, I'd probably be the one who ended up being able to transform into a purple guinee pig or have some other useless powers somewhere along those lines.

I really hate not having an english spellcheck or even an english dictionaryt to verify my spelling. At least when I m on my school laptop I can usually access the internet and google the correct spelling, but when I'm on my ipod (which is the case most days) correct spelling is left to the wayside as I concentrate more on getting a semblance of the correct word onto the screen.
It annoys me so much. Enough of my rant though, I actually have some news today.

First off, I finally got a job! I start at Subway later this week. Everyday that I come into work I get a free 12 inch sub, this makes me very happy.

Secondly... I figure if I ignore it it'll go away. Midterms have started at school. Report cards will be comming out soon. My impressions on the subjets so far are:

Biologie 20 (en ligne): Okay
Chimie: Okay/Good
Études Sociales: Good
Français 30-1: good as it can be
Français 20-1 (en ligne): Near impossible
Maths 30 Pur: Good
Physique: Good
French 30 (FSL): Awesome !

What really makes my head spin is that Français 20-1 is harder than Français 30-1, I understand 30 and as far as I know I have a half decent grade. I'm getting help in 20.
I told them at the beginning I didn't want courses online, they asked if I wanted to graduate or not.
According to most of the teachers I'm doing very well for someone who only learned the language last year.

And last but not least and still slightly school related: I now have to go to la salle de musculation two times a week and there I get to do fun stuff like stairmasters and treadmills. And I also was ellected to the school council par aclimation (meaning no-one else in my grade ran)

Oh and Universtiy wise I have narrowed down my choices to the University of Ottawa or the University of Calgary to study Political Science. I can't decide which one; U of O the largest bilingual university in North Aerica right next to the parliment buildings or U of C, the university of my friends, in the city where I already live and work? Any thoughts?

Rant

What is a touque you ask me, well I'll tell you what a touque is I will. A touque is the epidome of canadianism, the fashion statement that defines us as a nation. It has become so ingrained in our culture and lifestyle that it ranks right up there with Tim Hortons, Zambonis and Roots Backpacks in the minds of Canadians coast to coast. An absolute essential for life in Canada.

yo,

Best quote ever, and a quite update.

«Pour chaque dollar que l’on dispense pour soigner les gens, il faut en compter deux et demi pour les blesser et les tuer.»

or for those of you who aren't francaphone.

«For every dollar that we spend to heal people, one must count the two and a half used to hurt or kill them.»

- Operation 20 milliards de canons, L'actualité, novembre 1981

UPDATE TIME

I am not dead, homeless, foodless, or penniless yet.

Tonight I start moving, 4th time's the charm, I ended up not choosing option 1,2, or 3.
My new appartement is really a bedroom in the basement of one of my friends house. the rent is cheeper than what I currently pay, but I have to find my own food. (which I'm pretty much already doing anyways). It is a longer commute to school and to church but now I get to take the C-Train ! (obviously my priorities are in the same state as my bedroom). I,ve already started packing up most of my stuff, the rest of it is kinda spread over every available surface.

So far the job search is, well, still ongoing. I've gotten a couple phonecalls. Still nothing definite. Hopefully I'll get something soon, but looking around at the nonexistant job market here it might take a little while longer.

schoolwise everything is going great; I've been getting really good grades in all my science and math classes, not so great grades in the language based courses but that's to be expected in the beginning. I'm running for there version of school counsil and signed up for lunch time workouts in the gym.

Other than that I don't have much to say, and I'm actually suppossed to be doing Français 20-1 at this time so I'll just go back to doing school now.

Piano Fingers

Just when you thought you could reach the stars, the chair you're standing on breaks.

The strangest thing happened last night, I don`t know where to start so right to the beginning we shall go.

A weekly house meeting was scheduled to go over important issues, air issues and make sure the weekly communial chores got done. These meetings were the brainchild of a friend and we decided that it would be a good problem preventive measure. Anyhoo, this meeting didn`t go so well for me. Unfortunely because of factors that no-one can control I will be moving agian. It came as a bit of a shock at first but the more one thinks about it the more positive aspects can be found.

It's defintely not a hopeless situation for me, I'm not be hucked out on the street with only my 2 suitcases of junk... really quite the opposite. So far three options have presented themselves 1) I move across the street, 2) I move downstairs or 3)as much as I wouldn`t like to abandon Francophone school if all else fails I can go back home (assuming of course I can comandeer a bedroom at my parent's place). All in all not much will change (as long as #1 or #2 are my lucky numbers, #3 means things go back to how they used to be) and hopefully everthing will work out for everyone involved.

Why do we bother to think at home in French. I do not like never sat down and had a right to do so ..

The kitchen experience

I tried my hand at making BBQ tofu today despite my roomates obvious prejudice agianst soy product. Unfortunely I could not find my prefered recipe on saint aidan's cookbook (google it) so I kinda had to improvise. I never really paid attention when my mom made it , so I only had vague memories to work of off.

First I cut the tofu into slices, placed them between thick wads of paper towel, and squished the heck out of them for about 30 min.

Then I stuffed them in the freezer for 45 min (I read somewhere that frozen tofu has a better texture than the unfrozen stuff which has a tendency to go all mushy).

After dipping the tofu slices in soy sauce I fried them to infinity in canola oil. The first batch was a little weird, the oil kinda flew every which where and the tofu fused to the bottom of pan . The second time round worked much better but the mess had already started.

When my frying adventure was over I covered them in BQQ sauce and set them to bake for about 10 minutes (yet another dish soiled beyond recognition).

The end result, tofu + sliced tomatoes + ketchup + mustard on a bun, was delicious !!!
But of course nobody believed me, and the room mates and friend declined to try it.
*sigh*
Oh well, I get to eat BBQ tofu for lunch next week, I'm happy.

I go to an international school, I belive this fact has already been mentioned at least once on my blog. In my class there are people from all over the world; Algeria, Morocco, Congo, Soudan, Rwanda, Switzerland, Mexico, USA, the Philipenes, and even Pakistan and Afganistan.
Our Social Studies classes get pretty loud on touchy subjects ( like should women be forced to wear/not wear burkas or other religious headgear?).

I'm actually quite looking forward to the disection of something I originally classed as 'a very unfortunate disaster but not relevant to my life' (I was shown the error of my ways some time ago).

World skills

Yo, I went to the world Skills competition at stampede park today with my school. For those of you who don't know what it is badicly it's a giant simtatious competition between the best of the best in any trade imaginable. I saw everything from auto mechanics to hairdressing to pastry chefs to oil workers heck I even got offered a job in the beauty department but alas my legs weren't hairry enough to need waxing.
My friends and I also rocked the freebee scene, I scored an awesome hand thrown pot from the South Koreens and tonnes random wierd stuff like a radio pen, lots of pencils, pens, pins and assorted travel guides from around the world. There is probably more stuff in my extraodinarly heavy purse but I'm too sore/stiff to get up and check.

First day of school

Was not very educational, unless you count knowing how to ductape somebody to a wall a vital life skill.

For the morning we just sat there and listened as assorted people blathered on and on. Then we separated into our grades to listen to yet more blathering, we were also given thing like permission forms to leave the school during lunch hour, and forms to go to the world skills competion as spectators, and cafateria menus (I promply decided I am going to pack a lunch everyday).

After an hour and a half long lunch break we went and did lame activities like three legged races and not so lame activities like dunktanks with teachers in them, and the highlight of my day ductaping the lightest girl in our group to the wall and seeing how long she stayed there. (we came in third.... Out of four teams)

My probable timetable is: French 20, French 30, Social Studies 30, Chemistry 30, Physics 30 (don't ask), Math 30, and woodworking (I'll take anything but Esl, anything). I think there was something else but I forgot, I get my for certian timetable tomorrow morning.

Yay, first day in "The Big City"

Stressed to the max already, so far I make a pretty sucky citydweller.

Though I had my first encounter with the thing known as Calgary transit and I didn't get horribly lost so there might be hope for me yet.

But on the school front all is not so well, I have permission to go to the orientation day Monday, but they still don't have my transcripts so I cant be enrolled in any classes. Which really sucks, I panicked ally, but I live in the amazing house of chillax so we sat down and watched one of the strangest movies I've ever seen. Something about the army of darkness, whatever it was it was definitely "Interesting". I'll watch it agian in a heartbeat.
